			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The DOHCS 2009 conference has come and gone, and it was a tremendous success exceeding even our own lofty expectations. With nearly 300 attendees we greatly appreciated the interest in the speakers and their oustanding presentations. We are already in planning for DOHCS 2010 and hope to see you there. Below are the presentations and audio from DOHCS 2009, please note that the audio has some problems including volume in sections (particularly Q&amp;A) that we are aware of and unfortunately cannot resolve. <p><strong>Notice: Call For Papers has been extended to November 15th. </strong></p>
<p>We are proud to announce the arrival of the third annual DOHCS conference, the only event dedicated to Open Source in Healthcare. This event will be held in conjunction with the Southern California Linux Expo (SCALE) on <strong>February 20, 2009</strong> in <strong>Los Angeles, California</strong> at the <strong>Los Angeles Westin LAX</strong>.</p>
<p>We invite you to share your work with, or use of, Open-Source healthcare software with the rest of the community, and exchange ideas with some of the leading experts in these fields. Details about the event can be found at http://www.dohcs.org</p>
<p>In response to the overwhelming demand from our 2008 event, we are again expecting to  hold two tracks. Track one will focus on the business aspects, case studies, and Open-Source successes throughout health care as a whole. Track two will be providing live demonstrations and tutorial information.</p>
<p><em><strong>Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:</strong></em></p>
<ul>
<li>Case Studies of using Open-Source in health care environments</li>
<li>Real world solutions using Open-Source</li>
<li>Relevance of Open-Source software and open standards for the health care</li>
<li>Making sense of the standards soup</li>
<li>Privacy and security of patient data</li>
<li>Working with HL7</li>
<li>VistA, past, present and future</li>
<li>Open-source in the National Health Information Network (NHIN)</li>
<li>Integrating proprietary systems with Open-Source software</li>
<li>Open-Source in regional health information organizations (RHIO)</li>
<li>Open-Source in private medical practices.</li>
<li>What to consider when choosing Open-Source software for health care</li>
<li>environments</li>
<li>Current and future growth of Open-Source in health care</li>
<li>Use of Open-Source software for health care in government and</li>
<li>nonprofit settings</li>
<li>Open-Source in medical research settings and studies</li>
<li>Practical applications of Open-Source in medical/health care settings</li>
</ul>
<p><em><strong>The proposals should be submitted in form of a 1 page extended abstract containing:</strong></em></p>
<ul>
<li>Title for the presentation</li>
<li>Name, Affiliation, Bio, a passport size picture (optional) and contact email address of the Presenter.</li>
<li>What will be covered. A bullet list or a brief description of the main points to be presented should be submitted.</li>
<li>Please include enough detail that will enable the committee to evaluate the proposal.</li>
</ul>
<p><em><strong>The presentation setup provided will include:</strong></em></p>
<ul>
<li>microphone</li>
<li>overhead projector (resolution 1024 x 768)</li>
<li>a laptop running Linux with a pdf viewer and OpenOffice</li>
</ul>
<p>Please notify us if the presentation has any specific requirements.<br />
Submissions stored in doc, odt, txt and pdf format will be accepted.</p>
<p>Presentations are allotted a time slot of about 45 minutes. All proposals should be sent to</p>
